Q. 1st SPD gen SPD / modern cleat compatibility?

Am thinking about putting my original ?M737 SPDs (1st generation) SPDs on for springtime spinning!

My question is do they work OK with the latest model of cleats...bikeshop bloke didn't know, so thought would check here as someone is bound to be riding a set on here? Ta,

I have some of the first SPD's and they work fine with the cleats that came with my 2010 DX pedals.

There are 2 or 3 different types of Shimano cleat though.

M737 pedals work fine with SH51 cleats.

Funnily enough, I found a long-lost set of cleats from '93 in the bottom of a box in the shed and bolted them straight on some new Shimano shoes on Saturday (with copper clip, natch). No problems at all on a new-ish set of Spuds. Probably 'cos the cleats are identical to modern ones.

Ah nice one...was on the brink of taking the cleats back to the shop. But gonna plug back in to SPDarkside for a upcoming 24hr event (I think).
Run either XT beartraps / or low profiles + toe clips since BITD!
