Dawes On/Off Road

I’ve just picked this up, pretty sure it’s a 1993 Mean Street, I’ve got a huge ‘89 version but this one is my size.
It is basically a galaxy frame, although it looks like it will easily take 40c tyres so I’m not sure if it’s identical (geometry is the same according to the catalogue in the archive)
Bit of a bonus was the original saddle that was swapped for the sofa sized monstrosity in the ad was a really nice condition rolls 😁

Looking through my Dawes catalogues you're right, it's a '93, the same as my Galaxy, that was the year they changed to the internal rear brake cable, and the outlined graphics,' 94 went to solid block graphics.

The frame looks exactly the same as my galaxy and I run 40c g-one tyres on it with full mudguards no problem.

It looks like it’s a catalogue spec 1993 Mean street that is missing the decal on the top tube? Anyway nice bike you’ve now got! IMG_6454.webp IMG_6453.webp

I’ve had a quick play with it, does seem to be mostly catalogue spec still, slightly annoyingly the chainset has been changed to stx although the lh crank is still cx700. I’ve binned the horrid prop stand and the faulty gears have been fixed by liberal spraying of gt85 into the shifter. Bearings all seem smooth but it will get a proper clean and lube when I have time to properly look over it.
Most importantly at 53cm it is actually the right size for me, I’ve got a slightly too small Raleigh Randonneur, a massive (23 1/2”) ‘89 mean street and a slightly too large Kuwahara Pacer which might all have to go now I’ve got a decent quality tourer/hybrid which fits.
