I feel that the early 90s was really the heyday, when manufactures had no design limitations, lots of mad colours, fancy alloy bits etc

Klein stands out for me.

Hi, in my opinion 1996 was the pinnacle of MTBs well in the old school form anyway.

96 marins were the best mainstream, steel of course. I still pine for my pine!!

Hand builts are far too close to call , so i will not bother.
I will only get shouted at anyway
