The police were saying with the price of scrap it happening more and more  its a relatively easy crime as they don't have to find someone to sell onto they just chuck everything in the back of a van mixed up with fridges and washing machines and it all just gets weighed in :?

Its happening all the time here in Lincoln

The morons are targeting empty properties and removing all gas pipes and lead flashing, then nipping down to the scrappers and weighing it all in.

This is most common in properties that are either For Sale or To Let, which are generally terrace house it built up areas. It amazes me that the idiots can get away with it!!

one can only assume they each need new downtubes - if they are going to be repaired you'll need to get harsh. lava domes and cinder cones probably arent worth the cost, but a kilauea and a dekerf probably are

Jones - don't know if you considered this but you mentioned that the bikes may not be insured?

All items are covered by basic household contents insurance - usually up to a value of £250 per item. Whilst this wouldn't have paid to replace any of the complete bikes it should cover the cost of some new frames/repairs?

Maybe worth getting your parents to check their policy.

Kev

PS - still amazed at the way these guys operate and hope you get it all sorted! Do the scrapyards just buy the metal, no questions asked?????
