Paid too much - New Teardown Pic on page 2

If both you and your son are enjoying this father and son time...then possibly it's the best money you've ever spent

A tip though...unless you want your son to get the evils from the mrs/mum....put something more than a towel down

Good points - both of 'em.

either thats an old rug in the garage, or the presence of bare chipboard furniture in the lounge suggests said Mrs/Wife/Mum is (sadly unlike mine  ) not particularly house-proud... in which case, loose the towel and save on the laundry

Basement workshop! :P I inherited the rug when we got new ones upstair. Keeps the floor a little warmer.

Anyone have thoughts on those components? I'd never heard of them and am wondering if it is a worthy challenge to clean them up and it will run good, or should I dump them for the LX to be sure it runs wonderfully. If I can make the Aceras run good, I'm willing to do the work.

FWIW - if it was my son I'd do whatever made us spend the most time together. That time you will never forget, and neither will your lad. Teach him how to clean up stuff, remove rust, revive old mechs, set up brakes and gears.

My dad never took an interest in my bikes, and I had to fix them myself despite him being an engineer who could have taught me so much.

I'm looking at that pic - I wish my dad had taught me how to check bearing races.

That's what I'm thinking as long as I can get the bike to work pretty darn well with that grade of componentry. I mean it isn't a department store component set, but it doesn't look leagues better than that. Gotta be as good as M730 was though I guess. And I pay good money for used M730 all the time anymore seeking good bits for my Fisher.

lol

Arrrrgh.. The threads all pulled out of the cranks. Both sides! So LX it is. Now to get te cranks off the hard way... :(

It will look better for it, you can pick up a suntour crankset with rings in kids lengths fairly cheaply and they might be more suitable if he is still small.

The Good (some clean nice mid-90's LX)

The Bad (rusty, pinned, stuck and dremeled)

and, the Ugly (only ugly in that I can't make sense of how to fix it up.) :?
