Yeah, I figured my follow RBers would enjoy knowing they are not the only ones OR, better yet. Learn from my experience. I made the drive without really good photos because the deal seemed good and I didn't want to loose out to another buyer. Then, once I got there, it was shabby, but I figured I drove all that way. Dumb dumb dumb...
A few months back I drove for 4 hours to get what appeared to be (and what the seller swore was) a fairly pristine Nishiki Alien ACX in my size (what are the chances?). I specifically asked seller to look for cracks at the head tube and the seat tube, and he said it was perfect, but when I got there.....
.....Yup, seat tube was cracked.
Haggled with seller to lower his price so I could get something out of it (good parts) lest I leave empty handed and have spent the entire day in vain. Now I have either an expensive wall decoration, or a project that will be an obvious repair after I'm done. Have opted to repair with triangular gussets between top tube and seat tube. I actually took 4 aluminum frames to the welder to get them all done at once so I could get a good price. You'd think after the 3rd frame I would have learned, but I suspect there will be a 5th,.....
.....and a 6th,..... (face palm emoticon needed here, please)
.....(Derisive laughter goes here)
