Merckx Corsa Extra sizing

Hmmm. There are definitely 3+ ridges in the down tube moving away from the BB shell, but they run toward the head tube vs a tighter spiral at he BB shell, so I'm still not convinced of anything (other than it being a pro frame). The seat (harder to access) has the same.

Re:

clean the dross out of the tubes using a flexi wire brush from the diy shop and give the tubes a good old chimney sweep..you should be able to feel/ see them better.
do the same with the fork column - you'll see the rifling down at the fork crown end . .

I will dig up my cColumbus tubing stuff and post up for you.
A pro's frame from this era could be SL, SLX or TSX.
The SLX has the rifling at the ends of the tubes and the TSX rifling runs the full length of the main tubes.
The rifling is different in profile to give different compliance for different conditions. The TSX is reputed to be more comfortable over longer distances and was used for grand tour or multi day races and whilst SLX was used for these races as well it would be more used than TSX for single day races. That was the 'theory' to it anyway.
I'll find the scan and get back to you.
What are you after 7400 DA wise? I may have a crank and rings in 172.5 length which are a bit long for me that I have thought about selling.
Cheers
Jamie

Re:

The fork steerer definitely has the rifling running the full length of the tube (you can kind of see it in the below pic) and feels the same as the "seams" in the down tube. So I'm assuming at this point the frame is TSX.

As far as components, pretty much looking at an entire grouppo at this point but need a 175mm (if not 177.5mm) crank for my giraffe legs. Thanks for the offer though.

You guys are a big help, thanks a ton.

I'll try and dig the scan out tonight but I think that may well be TSX.
From memory, and thats not always a good thing, i think TSX had straight rifling and the SLX was spiraling??
