Argos MTB in Yeovil

The problem with buying "Argos" frames is their habit of applying their decals to frames that they had renovated so many of the bikes & frames advertised as Argos just aren't. I'm not saying that this is not one of theirs but proceed with caution, this has Specialised, Shogun or Al Carter vibes.

This looks like a standard Tig-welded CroMo frame, did Argos do that sort of thing or would it have been lugged or fillet brazed if it was an original Argos build bike? Certainly Shimano 400LX is reasonable high end but the frameset does looks very similar to my 91 Rockhopper with 400LX ggroupset. It certainly looks in good enough condition to be a repaint job.

Yep I did wonder the same. The rear brake cable guide on the seat cluster is quite specific. Anyone recognise it?

owner posts occasionally on Retro Mountain Bikes UK group - seems to collect Saracens and is therefore also likely to be a member here. price reflects pedigree of the frame IMHO - TIG welded Cr Mo so £100 seems about right to me, cable routing says late 80s to me (bottom pull mechs) and Shogun would tend to always have at least one cable route along the top of the tube IMHO. could be other mid-spec brand but unlikely to be anything exotic IMHO.
