Just dragged my old bike out of the loft...

I think as a fourm of users sharing a common interest should be less conserned about jumping on a bargain and helping a newbie about the site! Clearly £100 is to cheap! We all look for bargains but taking the p#~s out of inexperience is wrong! Fella I hope you sell your bike! If it does go for £100 I'll chip in with some karma bits to send you to make up for your 1st experience! I'd hope others will join? Mods get involved!

i agree in principle, but take exception to the accusation.

i was not taking the piss, £100 is cheap, not the bargain of the century tho. but how much is it really worth to the guy, its not been used in years and clearly has no sentimenal value.

if a guy signs up to what is probably the biggest retro resource, does not do an ounce of research, with one goal in mind, to shift an old bike that he probably thought worthless, well then so be it.

now that hes had some interest, hes thought wow i can make a bit more here. What has happened from his first post to now is pure greed. i very much doubt hes worrying about getting ripped off, 24 hours ago he was happy with 100 Or nearest offer.

He's gone about it all wrong, now ive already said im out, and im sure it will sell well and a bit of a brucie bonus for the seller.

to add insult, that i in some way treated him so poorly, you go ahead and send him some gifts, if he sticks around, il send you some bits.

Newbie - Here's a guy who almost certainly has appeared on this site to shift his bike only.

Inexperienced - He somehow had the nounce to find this site as a place to sell his bike.

I'm afraid I don't buy into the 'we need to help the poor inexperieced thing out' politeness. He's not been bothered to research his price or investigate the house rules. Neither would have taken any time at all.

I've spent the weekend looking after my two sons - both under 4. I have to do lots of things for them as they don't know any better. I don't feel obliged to help out someone who obviously has the capability of using the internet but can't be @rsed to help himself.

Clockwork

Agree with your comments Awkward Kid.

I was only communicating with a newbie to the site yesterday regarding the ethics on this forum and how pleasant they are. It’s a tough call because everyone wants to get a bargain. I have had them, so have you all. You also know when you have paid possibly a little over the odds for something too. Passion sometimes gets in the way of common sense.

Personally I would feel I had committed an injustice if I was in this situation. Perhaps the seller should have communicated directly with the chap that agreed the price and explained his error, and offered first refusal after discussions. I would have been willing to pay that bit extra. It probably is still a bargain.

The fact that someone bothered to PM the seller regarding the price shows there are those who are still ethically minded. :D

Here's to keeping it nice. That’s why Retro is my forum of choice :D

Gonna stick with crud on this one.

I appreciate that underspray didn't have much of an idea about the value, but looking at the time of his initial posts, he clearly did next to no research either. Within 6 minutes of a post telling him the advert needed a price, underspray put the price at £100 ONO. I'm assuming that he was happy with this price as nobody forced him to set it & he chose the value himself.

The price had been set & crud offered the full amount, so it would only be fair to sell at that price. Underspray should put any loss down to experience & remember that next time he could do more research. What would he have done if he'd put the bike on ebay with a buy it now of £100?
