Is BOTM too elitist??

BOTM could be moderated much more heavily. if we didn't have 3 pages of two blokes reminding us how much they know about the history of brand XYZ it would be much better. there should only be the pictures of the entry bikes, and description from the owners of the bikes. everything else is irrelevant to the voting competition

^Agreed.
Each entry should contain;
A static picture of the bike
An action picture of the bike
A link to build thread

All other posts should be deleted.

I have voted only a few times.. but when I vote.. I don't think of the price. I am more likely to vote for a bike that has a recent build posted... than a bike that I haven't read about.

I like pretty paint jobs and shiny parts and hate when I see a seat post too high or the seat at a funny angle. I also more likely to vote for a custom bike with a unique paint job than something that is factory spec perfect. I only bought one factory spec bike and quickly upgraded it.

BTW... Fat City bikes show up on my local Craig's Liist from time to time at very reasonable rates

Who decided having a Garage Queen was so bad?

If I find the right bike, it will be mounted on the living room wall.

BOTM is one person one vote. Simple, if you care enough to vote, then vote. You will make a difference.

Change Americans to retrobikers, and country to website

“The instant ELITISM became a dirty word among Americans, any potential for a high culture to develop in their country was tomahawked in its cradle”

I just don't take it all that serious, if i see a bike i really like, it will get my vote.....

Come on guys, you do realise what your talking about for 4 pages already....?

just some thoughts...

If I understand this correctly, there are members who think that botm should be changed, so less elitist builds/bikes can win too.

I think wanting to win is a bit elitist too :wink: :lol:

I love looking at other people's awesome builds, its inspiring
Seeing people throw money at eBay and simply screw those bits together isn't remotely inspiring.

I think every month should be a special that champions creativity and underdog brands, parts, styles, etc... If people feel they couldn't ever enter, let alone win, they won't take any interest. Suggestions:

  • * Not Nominated By Owner
    * 100% Original, 99% Knackered (But I still ride it) Special
    * French, German, Spanish... Country Specials
    * 10,000+ Mile Special
    * SRAM/Sachs Special
    * LX or Less (aka No XT) Special
    * 1988, 1989, 1990... Year Specials
    * No Decal Special
    * BSO Brands Shoot For The Stars Special
    * High-End Brand Shoot For The BSO Market Special
    * Dawes, Diamond Back, Giant, Haro, KHS, Muddy Fox, Proflex, Specialized, Trek, Univega... Specials
    * Owes Me Under £50, £100... Specials
    * "Has a bodged repair I made in 1992 and is still holding" Special

or a "really wanted to have from new but couldn't afford and am still irritated, upset and jealous and that's why i say i don't like them" BOTM competition......

woooo, that will be a lot of entry's :wink:
