Great big Singlespeed thread!

There’s a good chance that this question may already exist in the last 14 years of this thread but I’ll ask anyway….

I’ve got an old horizontal dropout Inbred that is rim brake only. I’d like to bring it back to life on a shoestring budget but looking to run discs given those are the wheels I have, and disc brakes are just better*. Options found so far seem to be cheap but not very cheerful or a bit pricey for the build budget

Any ideas for something that more budget build friendly but doesn’t look like it’ll fold up at the first attempt to brake, yet ideally is able to slide with the rear wheel.

Thanking you all.

* albeit in a subjective manner

Local frame builder to weld on some disc tabs would likely be your best bet - dependent on how precious you are about original paint being removed in those areas.
Personally, i think it's either a labour of love that you're willing to spend money on, or, accept that you either need another frame or another set of (rim brake) wheels.

That sounds defeatist to me! 😁

Neither of what you said is the answer, why should it be so drastic? The box one option would be cheaper than either option you suggested so would be a realistic ‘best’ option to the problem.

I’d just prefer it to be cheaper, hence the question.

Thanks. Forgot about those, they’ve been around for ages haven’t they?

Not the most attractive but looks like it should be effective and priced for the project!

only one I'd ever use if I had to use one. that or a sharkfin from an Specilized FSR.

As the inbred is steel though, I'd be brasing my own mount on if I was in your position, or bunking 40 quid to a local welder to do it for me. but as you say, cheap and cheerful is the way here, so.....
