Fitting rear brake on Pro FRO tail

Hi dear Retrobike friends :) ,

I am busy with putting brakes on my Pro FRO ('95 I think). 1st option would be ControlTech V, but it seems they don't fit. Diameter of the begin part (where there is paint) of the stud/mount is too big and does not allow sliding of the ControlTech over it. So I tried....

XTII - doesn't fit
DX - nope
XT V - idem
Campa - forget it

It seems of what I have laying only the Grafton Johnny Jewel and Suntour XC9000 have holes/housings in a diameter large enough ...but the Graftons are already reserved for another bike and the XC9000s are 80s brakes. Problems

I prefer to stick to my ControlTechs, also because there is a ControlTech theme going on for the build.

Okay, now my questions: Is this commom for Pro FRO?

Is it the powdercoat? If so, how to remove it?

On the later: The point is my Miyata BigChamp uses a 100% identical looking stud/mount (curves, edges, proportions, even codes), but with the forks I do not face the problem. They are chromed or have a wet paint. This made me think it is the coating on the Yeti, but I can see.

Is there paint on the studs? There shouldn't be so just sand it down. Your cantis should fit when done.

Thanks for your replies fellows :)

Actually the solution presented sounds very simple and very well do-able. That I didn't came on this myself :?

Below two pics. I meant the tiny bit of paint on the larger diameter section of the stud.

Normally modifying a frame is not my thing. Once I removed the paint, it will be gone FOREVER   Will do it with utmost care.

Btw frame number is 3201. Does that say somebody something?

IIRC, Yeti started their frame numbers pretty low. Named after a motorcycle. I've talked with CH about this, and he welded the first for production. I forget the number.

Anyway, mine was 1739 or something like that. Yours sounds a little low to be a 95, and I dont think they discontinued the Pro FRO after 94. Its not in the 95 catalogue.

Hi Mike,

Thanks. I checked here an there. The YetiFan website mentions R340 is the lowest number. It is after a Harley.

I visited Staabi's site too. Also great covering on there. Bummer some of the pics aren't working for me.

I do have the 1996 catalogue. The ProFRO is in it. Unfortunately the 1995 isn't working on www.mtb-kataloge.de. Weird the FRO isn't in yours.

Yeti enthousiasts may have noticed, but a fun link was posted on MTBR VRC a few days ago. Yeti updated their Gallery with new old pics. The easter edition ULTIMATE featured on MTBR VRC too is ace btw.

For already many years I had Yeti wear laying in my closset, but the most important was missing: A Yeti. Finally that is solved now :)

If you look at the link, it ends with "1996.html"... just change it "1995.html" and you'll get 'er. The Sherpa is the steel model offered that year... but they were a small enough operation even then to where you could likely get whatever you wanted. AT some point in the game, they started adding PF or something like that to the frame numbers, but this is where my knowledge runs out.

Sorry to drop in on you Mike, but was wandering if Chris Herting still had

any rear 1 piece triangles for a PRO FRO/SHERPA :?: think ive asked you

before about donor frames etc? I have a SHERPA with 2 piece rear stays with a rusty drive-side stay

Any ideas or knowledge would be greatly appreciated :D

Sorry again for hi-jacking this post
