In Denmark we have legislation about flags....
You can fly a danish flag from a flagpole in your garden (our house has its own flagpole as do most danish houses) if
1) it's your birthday
2) the queen's birthday
3) one of a list of public holidays
4) You have been buried
5) You are in residence at your holiday home
Foreign flags are prohibited, so I skip all these.
Much as I tease my wife about the danish fixation with their flag, in secret I do admit that it seems like a good way around the national pride issue - giving your flag a value and status, while at the same time keeping it out of the hands of extreme nationalists.
