I picked this up locally.

Its a Brodie Expresso. The frame is intact but not pretty. Surface rust and paint issues. It can be saved.

I am having a bit of an issue sorting out the year. It has shimano xt 735 derailleurs and dx rapid fire shifters and cranks. It has the noodle cable guide, 27.2 seatpost (suntour??), and a 1 1/8" headtube. I have been looking a pics online of this model, but they are all a bit different.

No fork. Oddly and set of Megabites that look almost new (go figure).

There is no serial # that I can see on the frame.

The serial number should be on the underside of the bottom bracket. My guess would be a late 93 or early 94.

You're right. It was hiding under the cable guide and a bunch of grime. #2344

I was guessing 1994 because of the 1 1/8 head tube, but the components are 1990-1993, and the bottom pull derailleur is messing me up. Everything I have seen is all top pull online.

I'm going to say early 1993 at a guess

I have a climbMax with serial #2252 which was built in November 1993. So seems like early 94 for your Expresso.

That's not worth doing up, sell it to me instead :)

Re: A wee bit of info & help ... Brodie eXpresso

Very late 1993- very early 1994 makes sense with the components. Both 735 XT and DX were phased out at the end of 1993 for 737 and the new LX groups.

Looking at the 1994 catalog I see a similar group and the bottom pull front derailleur. My frame and the one in the pics has the older non hooded drops outs.

Couple more Qs

Decals ... can I get replacement ones?

Colours ... looks like Brodie could do anything under the sun, but since this began life as a more traditional colour maybe it should remain so ...
- Yellow
- Black
- Team Blue
- Red
- Green
- Orange

Did they do any metallics from 1993-1994?

Re:

May as well call this a restoration project thread now.

I got the old girl apart. Once I got all the grime and filth off it it started to look better. Its a 19" frame (measured centre of BB to top of seat tube), which is my size. I was happy to find the surface rust sand away with a light sand in the worst part. The metal looks good underneath so good sandblast and some sanding in the seat tube should fix it up. I have had good success with powder coating so that is the likely route.

Tough to figure out this bike's life. I don't think it was ridden hard, in fact I bet it spent most of its life on road. Most of the marks on it look like the typical ones you get on a bike you lock up a lot. Not a mark on the underside. If its been offroad it hasn't ridden over a thing.

I am taking a bunch of pics of the parts and frame as I go for my own reference. Not totally sure how the build will play out. Debating the usual bring it back to the way it was resto, or something a bit/lot more wild. The shimano bottom bracket has newer NTN bearings in it and is totally usable. The crank is a Deore FC-MT60. Its seen better days, but if I feel like a project I could total redo them into something nice. Need to clean up the derailleurs and shifters and see if they are salvageable.

I need a fork :?
