I'm sure you wouldnt say 'only' 38 in a 30 to someones parents when you've mown their children down
If I'm mowing children down I found 50 is much more effective

Comedian.

Oh read my posts in context fer chrissake... I've not moaned about getting the points, it's a fair cop.

And. . .
The fact my licence has been clean for over 20 years (as stated in this thread) should give some indication that I'm not a high-speed loon and I drive a 2 tonne 4x4 that does 0-60 sometimes and is reported to be able to do a scratch over 90mph (I wouldn't know.. I've not taken it over 80)

I also have 3 kids of my own so am fully aware of the risks of allowing them to play on a country road. And of speeding motorists.

I am a Jekyll and Hyde driver. Clean license on public roads, "stick" to limits  (time and a place and all that....) and am generally law abiding/cautious. (advanced driver training, using police methods, really helps!)

However, stick me on the Nurburgring / Silverstone and I become another person - Kind of like the Stig's taller, crapper at racing, cousin.... But I love opening the taps off the public road. I wouldn't have spent so much tuning my car if I never took it to the limits. :)

Problem with tuning cars is that people (and I don't mean you - speaking generally) frequently have more money than skill and experience.. :(

Waaaay too old to drive like I used to. . . .

Felt good at the time but I shudder now (and everyone moans now that I drive like an old lady - even my kids!! )

I drive like an old lady and I'm 26  ( shit I'm 26 :( ) used to drive a little quicker than you should and often saw three times the speed limit and have put various old fords on to the grass verge

I had spent so much time traveling to places on a bike I was used to riding as quick as I could and not having things get in the way ; while riding a bike your in constant control and your always aware of your surroundings . when I got a license I drove my mk2 escort like a loon . I couldn't get used to the lack of freedom , I wanted to travel as fast as possible but was bound by other cars on the road . I also found driving very very boring , your sat in a comfy chair just moving your arms and legs once in a while , luckily I've never had a stereo in a car otherwise I'd have forgotten I was driving  The relentless noise of no interior was mind sharpening

I got bored of driving quick , that and the constant thought while going into a blind corner with the valves bouncing that you just don't know whats on the other side kind of makes it all not worth the risk . I of course never did this with people around , I'm not silly and most was in the middle of the night , but even then there's always the what if and if you are holding back even in the dead of night it kind of makes going even a little bit over the limit pointless at other times .

I had to drive the missus car for a while and it was the first car that I had driven with a whopping 5 gears since passing the test . I'm really into mpg now  I was amazed at how little it was costing to use . £10 was lasting me a week when one of the old fords would have seen that off in a day or two

I avoid driving whenever possible now as I just hate it but if I ever got a garage I'd build something interesting ( ie salt flats style ) and see how close to 100mpg I could get it .

You live and learn. Did this early on to my first fabia... Rolled twice over! :( Thankfully have had my current one 6+ years now, and have personally been involved with each upgrade / tune-up. I wouldn't fancy just going out buying a tuned up motor. I need to be involved and know in great detail how it all works. I spent one day just taking a motor like mine apart from the top down, just to see how it worked. :)
