DC versa series V-brakes where in mode by 95 so I'd think the newest canti you'd want would be 987's.

I sort of disagree.

Some of us never got on with V-brakes and stuck steadfastly with cantilevers, even when Vs were at their most hyped.

But it's not a typical period modification - I'll give you that.

Hi Guys, Interesting points there , I have some 987s also but really like the look of the 986's more.

I have not weighed the 986's yet ,  but if memory serves correct, I remember bitd I specced these over 987's etc, due to the lower weight.. and yes they were the same as the ritcheys, apart from a different bolt kit.. :)

The main spec is lightweight, and a non shimano spec sheet on this build :) These brakes will also be 'custom' tuned to increase the power, and weight ;)

To be totally period, on this frame, I agree it should be V's but I prefer the mud clearance , and the look of cantis :) and the next build will have V's on ;) :)

986's weight 0.5g more than 987's when bikepro (link I gave) weighed them.
But if you prefer the looks, then that is as good a reason as any. Doubt they perform much different.
