Despicable NOTW

but generally it seems blown out of proportion to me.

what a stupid thing to say
There's plenty more going on in the country and wider world worthy of proper scrutiny, yet the NOTW issue is dominating the media and will do for months to come. This media is run by competitors of Murdoch so there's a clear and obvious vested interest.

Parliament voted through a £9bn increase in EU spending last night- is it on the front page of the BBC, Guardian or Mail sites? Not a chance. Too busy slagging NI than report news that affects us all far more greatly.

I'm not condoning the NOTW actions but it (understandably from a BBC/Guardian POV) is being blown out of all proportion imo.

That you think me stupid matters not a jot. I know better than to care what random internet know-alls think.

Well we are a member of the EU so what's the news in that?

You're right, we should maybe have made it £15bn. They deserve it after all.

Well the Conservative Gov took the UK in & the media at the time supported it. Now they hate the EU.
Should have never joined. But now in can't leave plus the EU has/does some good?
The UK also pays 'membership' to the other 'clubs' its in.

It's good to see the Victor Meldrews getting all outraged and seething with righteous indignantion. Oooh, the moralists are having an eppie!
Go, go embolism go!

I think it's fair to say the project has changed somewhat since the 70s.

Of course we could if we wanted to. I'm sure it has done some good somewhere but relative to the money it consumes? And all these billions on the flimsiest of mandates.

Time we had a referendum on membership as promised.

Yes, we can leave. And there's an alternative to the dictatorial, totalitarian monster that the EU has become...

I do love to hear some classic British understatement. :)

Oh, yes please. The sandal-wearing part of the coalition has had its "Alternative Vote" referendum -- now it's time for the part who actually won the election to have an EU membership referendum.

If we throw Murdoch's unelected influence out of this country and then the EU's unelected influence, we might actually be edging towards a system of government that starts to look like democracy...

Obviously your daughter has not just been snatched by some deviant and you're out of your mind with grief.

Maybe your son hasn't been born with a life threatening disease which has no concern whatsoever to the general public.

Maybe you haven't had your bank details stolen or your medical records examined by someone other than your GP.

Just because Gordon Brown is PM why does he have to have his phone tapped/medical records stolen/bank details obtained by subterfuge? What does his son have to do with the public interest? Nothing.

Quick to identify paediatricians as child molesters so they get hate mobs chasing them out of their own property, slow to admit wrongdoing themselves.

Not a Victor Meldrew, not a moralist - just someone who prefers that criminal activity wasn't used in the name of circulation of some rag that belongs in the gutter

Oh - and believe me: You wouldn't want to be an "eppie". It can happen to anyone at any time...

If Murdoch hadn't had his influence forcing beliefs on the idiots reading his gutter press the part who actually won the election might not have done so....

This country that democratically entered the EU also has elected MEPs. But they are too busy peddling their far right views to have any sort of influence whatsoever. Still that's down to the electorate eh?
