Columbus • tubing Decals & history •

So after the harsh characteristics of Columbus Megatube, when I later purchased a custom lugged steel - it was to be round tubes for the main frame tubes. And since I had experienced Reynolds and Tange on more than one bike, I gave Columbus the nod and a mixed Columbus build yielded this frameset and bike. Nemo and EL with an OS downtube. A lovely rider.

Very nice bike 👍 👌

Any idea of when Columbus has introduced externally butted (or bulge butted) seat tube (as in Zona tubeset)? And which tubeset(s)? I'm trying to identify the tubeset of an early Mécacycle MTB that, depending on the year, was assembled with Columbus OR, Columbus Cr Mo 25 CDA (probably CD4, but still don't know what this refers to; Cromor?) or Vitus tubeset. Amongst remarkable features, the seat tube is bulged at the top and the steerer tube has 5 helicoidal reinforcements at the bottom. Still, no listed tubeset (being Columbus or Vitus) matches my measurements. The whole story here if interested.
