Chain Reaction Cycles....are Tesco?

used to use my Lbs but now its run by kids that seem to lounge about over the counter. not a friendly atmosphere.

Chain reaction all the way for me.

*With regards to supermarket shopping, i'd rather buy from Tesco than Walmart(ASDA) :D

As I said in an earlier post, amongst food industry insiders Tesco's reputation in terms of treatment of manufacturers and farmers is pretty low; Asda is actually known for treating its supply chains in a far less brutal manner.

Even great companies can get 'too big'.

I see CRC starting to do this. Have had poor service recently for the first time, and repeatedly and unapologetically.

There are those that think google and even ebay are getting to the line that so many cross from big and works great, to huge and doesn't function user friendly enough anymore.

...

google has been there for a while, I still use it but it is becoming difficult to find things that are similar to searches you have done in the past - tailored advertising effectively. worst thing is everyone is now copying their search methods.

As an IBD, I don't perceive CRC to be a problem as such.

One thing that "proper" bike shops never talk about is that CRC sells stuff to people who can't always fit it correctly, who then have to come to people like me to have it fitted properly. Now I'm there anyway but it means that I got some extra work I otherwise wouldn't have. And a potential new regular customer to boot.

The only stores that should be perceiving CRC to be a problem, are ones that don't have a proper workshop and competent mechanic - as the workshop should be contributing a significant part of the shop's income.

And frankly, I think CRC prices seem to be increasing - apart from clearout prices, which all shops do when they want to free up some capital to buy newer stock. IN theory, I am able to sell Hope for the same price as CRC can sell Hope to my territory for. But I don't need to as I can offer a deal on having it fitted, which CRC can't.

Always use CRC for components but then again I also use LBS for consumables.

Problem with a lot of LBS is they have naff all of interest but generic bikes (Treks) and I even went in one recently that didn't sell puncture repair kits anymore due to tubeless and self adhesive patches. Now that IMO isn't progression!

I have gone off CRC , it takes ages for stuff to arrive and prices are not as good as they used to be .
