Its got a small dent in the top tube from the bars but I assume that it can be filled when it goes for new paint :?:

So, fatties - paint - who's the best lot to send it to and what sort of costs am I looking at.

Was thinking of brown with a gold overspray, fitting the RS1's up front & painted to match

Oh and decals :?:

awesome!!!!!
and i like as it is.. don't repaint! the scars on it just add character. dress it with m900 xtr, syncros (tougher looking than ringle), marz bomber(coil!) and conquer the world.

Wasn't originally going down the garage queen route but I suppose You are right , the RS1's are a bit ............mmmmm unreliable :? , but they are all I have spare at the moment apart from some switchblades, but I don't think they would look right.

I could keep an eye out for some Judy's, I suppose.

Think its a 91 frame, its a 1" headset, how much travel/what sort of fork do you think I can get away with :?:

Lee,

The RS1 are not only unreliable, they also don't offer the sharp steering. They do not complement a Yo frame well.

I share your opinion Switchlades won't look good. Besides I think they are heavy and uncomfortable. They are not as good concept as the Yo frame is.

As MadCoKwv said a Judy wouldn't be a great match as well. Too new, too long ...and again not stiff enough imo.

A proper option could be a Mag21 (cheap too) and of course an original Yo fork 8) Moreover Rody can make you an exact copy ...AND Rody is making a design himself. That would be not period correct, but it is a nice and excellent performing piece.

marz bomber. fats don't need exact restorations.. they look good w/ newer stuff. plus the bomber is perfect for the aggro ride style a yo brings up.
mag 21s are a PITA w/ maintenance, leaks not to mention how flimsy they are on east coast like trails.
that frame deserves to be a rider and not a parade bike.

DECALS DECALS

Ask rody for the decals, think he`s got a set of yellow left,i`ve had two sets of him and there mint :D welcome in fellow fatcog

p.s get it shot blasted just in case of the R-word

A'ha frame number is 345Y4M.

so tell me, is that the 345th Yo in 1994 in a medium then :?:

Its got a 1" headset too, didn't think they would still be inch by then :?:

As goes the frame colour I am still debating - maybe I will like the violet when it turns up, dunno - but I think it deserves new paint and decals, not keen on battle scars unless they are my own

Forks - you know what I really want but :( , but I can't afford em even if they came along now, probably cost more thant frame  ,so I am looking at some kind of suspension fork, maybe a manitou 4 sprayed up to match  , somehow marzocchis dont seem right on a fat frame.

when the frame gets sent off to be resprayed and the dent filled will they shot blast it then :?:

 need to get in touch with Rody for decals too

anyone know how much a repro BoI fork costs to get made up :?:

I asked Dave Yates and he suggested about £220 plus cost of spraying the forks so not exactly cheap!

I asked my LBS (who is an accredited 753 builder) and he suggested that it would be pretty tough to do.

Rody has done some for others, no idea on cost but they looked great in the flesh

Yes ...BUT on the 345 number: One would assume it indeed means 345th Yo, but exceptions made me think that can't be the case. What it does mean exactly? Well, don't know. Sometimes logic fails in FAT serial#'s.

Its got a 1" headset too, didn't think they would still be inch by then :?:

Yes, they were. 1-1/8 from 1997 upwards. By 1995 serial# notation changed to something like this YOM1075 (example, my bike). When the serial is in 2000s, it means 1-1/8.

 need to get in touch with Rody for decals too

I would contact Rody for that too. Probably a several 100s, but dollar is low, plus than you can be sure you get a fork that is up to Yo quality ...or more

I ll keep it violet . it is really nice .

I gotta agree here.. I wouldn't even bother with a re-spray unless the ding is a) gonna cause a rust issue? or b) going to psyche you out.. Filling it will be a purely cosmetic affair no?

And forks would have to be Mag21SLs with M900 XTR.. Hang on, that's what I'm building!

Makes a change to be asking all the questions

Cheers for the answers Melvin, I have registered myself on the frame registry now so I can eventually get some decals ordered :D

Seems like a lot of folk are going for keeping it violet.

mmmmmmmmmmmm

and sticking XTR on it ( :? bloody overpriced XT if you ask me)

Retrobikeguy,

Congrats on the Yo aquisition...will be a lovely frame for you. A bit of info per your questions...

- yes, the dent in the top tube can be filled with 56% silver and gently sanded so that you would not even know it's there. Insure that silver is used, as the temps for brass would be too high for the thin portion of the top tube the dent is located in.

- A BOI or YO fork will run you 285.00 dollars in powder black, 315.00 in any single wet color.

- A HO Down fork, a box crown with 1.0" legs and scalloped dropouts (everything that was beautiful in a vintage Fat fork rolled into one), is 275.00 in powder black or 305.00 painted to match.

- the Team violet color is quite stunning, especially when viewed in the sun as the violet has a red pearl added to the clear coat that radiates in and sparkles to your eyes delight. I'd definately keep it for the respray. A team Violet paint is very difficult to match, however, as there were at least six different shades that I've seen as the paint was hand mixed each time. They do not differ much, but just enough that you can tell.

- Decals come in a variety of flavors/colors, and are 36 bucks shipped to the UK.

- Make sure when the frame is refinished that it is properly prepped and protected against mean old Mr. Rust...Ededwards had a thread on this a week or so ago.

Should be a stellar project...good luck!

Rody

Cheers Rody,

Am well chuffed (as you can imagine) Sound info from you again on frame repair, should have just asked you straight off really.

I really would like a BOI fork, and will get one when I have a bit more cash , I need to get saving :!:

I nearly PM'd you on fatcogs earlier but suddenly realised it was closer to 5.30 than I thought so put it off until I got home but suddenly found myself getting roped into christmas tree decoration duty

gotta get back to it now :? just had the 'I thought you were doing the tree' look :|
