Been drinking again - Finally bought my 1st fat chance frame

If that frame was mine (I wish), I wouldn't dream of getting it repainted. All bikes should be ridden and I'd get far more enjoyment riding that bike as it is, partly because I like the retro-cool feel, and original but slightly battered beats new paint every time in terms of retro-cool, and partly because I wouldn't need to be nervous about crashing it. New yo eddy stickers and a bit of tidying up is all that old warrior needs IMHO.

Easier to justify to the wife as well! 'didn't cost much, battered old thing'.

Hi Lee,

Nice one you got there :D Now you're indeed officially member of the club and can you legitimately post on the FatCogs.com

You're going for RS-1s, so you're opting for making a garage queen of it? Do not forget that with the right bits a Yo could also be a great all day performer :D Not only a classic, but still one of the best bikes as well imo.

Looking forward to the proceeding of the project and of course the final result :D

I ll keep it violet . it is really nice .

Its alright but I aint in love with the colour, got some purple parts that would go well if I carried on with the colour scheme but I fancied something a little different :? .

Ideally I would like it to be aquafade but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

has anyone ever successfully recreated an aquafade paint job ?

Wasn't originally going down the garage queen route but I suppose You are right , the RS1's are a bit ............mmmmm unreliable :? , but they are all I have spare at the moment apart from some switchblades, but I don't think they would look right.

I could keep an eye out for some Judy's, I suppose.

Think its a 91 frame, its a 1" headset, how much travel/what sort of fork do you think I can get away with :?:

Hey RBG - nice find!

I like the violet but it's a bit camp for Yorkshuh  The brown and gold sounds nice!

Judy's will be a bit too modern and have too much travel for that frame IMO - why not fit some Mag 21's?

Lee,

The RS1 are not only unreliable, they also don't offer the sharp steering. They do not complement a Yo frame well.

I share your opinion Switchlades won't look good. Besides I think they are heavy and uncomfortable. They are not as good concept as the Yo frame is.

As MadCoKwv said a Judy wouldn't be a great match as well. Too new, too long ...and again not stiff enough imo.

A proper option could be a Mag21 (cheap too) and of course an original Yo fork 8) Moreover Rody can make you an exact copy ...AND Rody is making a design himself. That would be not period correct, but it is a nice and excellent performing piece.

If I recall correctly someone at FatCogs tried to approach Aquafade. He did it a little bit different though. There was also glitter dust involved. Believe it was member 'fatf*ckingchance'

So, fatties - paint - who's the best lot to send it to and what sort of costs am I looking at.

Was thinking of brown with a gold overspray, fitting the RS1's up front & painted to match

Oh and decals :?:

I've just had a Yo frame plus forks resprayed by Argos, not cheap but absolutely fantastic job and very neat fades (red to orange to yellow). Also had a small chainstay dent filled and now you'd never know it had been there. Brown with a gold overspray sounds very cool (I originally was going for a Siamese cat with champagne to chocolate fade but I chickened out!) and have to agree with Melvin's comments re. the RS-1s (I've got some On One Superrigids, not exactly in keeping in terms of quality but they are 5 piece so have the right 'feel').

Rody sorted out the decals and was a really nice and helpful guy to deal with.
