For sale Balance 450 FS frame

Done the rounds on RB a bit! Had a knackered rear derailuer thread when I got it, I've fixed that, but not tried to rebuild the rear suspension

At present it is locked fully extended, so is a completely usable bike. I've not tried to take it apart but I'm told the left stanchion is seized into the leg, I reckon I could beat it but I'm moving house soon, so moving out all the 'maybe one day' projects... I have a few...

Cosmetically she's pretty good, clear coat is a bit chipped here and there... BB is fine, no cracks or dents

This is your chance to show us your RB skillz by fixing the rear suspension on this thing!

Agreed, shamed by that comment and not wanting to sell something with a 'risk' element I have un-seized the stanchions

So you can definitely rebuild the rear-end now

But there's still a challenge! Actually removing the stanchions will be possible but I didn't do it... Looks like it needs the type of allen wrench which is driven by a ratchet...

Still the same great price!

Quite likely, just need elastomers with a fairly small internal diameter, my Manitou three kit contained a few elastomers with a 2mm ID that would have suited

Suspensionforkparts.net would be able to supply suitable ones and there are a few remaining with the frame which would serve as a guide

I reckon the stanchions need to be removed and polished/sanded as the stuck one remains quite sticky! So definitely a worthy challenge remains

I bought some elastomers for my FS-450 from the suspensionforkparts website
They work great although, while I bought them in 'Firm' they are still too soft for my weight (85kg) and I've had to add an extra small elastomer block from some spares I have just for a bit more resistance
Although in saying that, mine are the longer travel version with a coil-spring as well as the MCU's, so without a spring they might be firmer

I recommend for the next owner to just buy an elastomer for a seat post and cut it down and try that first
I got one off ebay ($6) and it feels very similar to the proper ones
The only thing is, apart from cutting it up (hacksaw) you need to bore out the center for the skewer to go through, not a big deal though

The bolt inside the legs should be an 8mm hex
I just attached an 8mm hex bit to a long socket-drive and with a little WD-40 had no trouble in undoing them
Giving the insides a good clean will really help
