Any wood stainers/polishers/oilers in?

Old School Grand Master
Ex Girly has decided to sell her farmhouse and so given it has a handmade wooden kitchen in it wants to brighten it up a bit..the kitchen units look like a soft wood thats been waxed but the wooden worktops are a hardwood that looks like it's been oiled and polished up..she claims there was a bottle of teak oil in the garage when she first came here

However as to be expected the sides of the worktop by the sink have caught the sun and over time have lost the dark shine with some water patterning..the extreme edges that are away from the window are still dark

I've been reading and it look like I will have to sand the thing back, then re colour to get the consistenty then oil and polish several coats of teak? oil

any suggestions advice? and no a professional will not be doing it as she's skint..and I'm her EX

I'm after doing this the weekend coming before the estate agents come around next week so any advice would be welcome

take it back down to wood...smooth with sandpaper...stain to her choice then id waterproof with oil..the varnish will just come off again as water will have got in by now and would blemish white quite quickly..

TBH, that really doesn't look that bad at all; it has a nice patina to it. I've seen a lot worse... Oak is the real b@stard!

I think she is worried about the house because the kitchen for most women is important so for the sake of a few days graft

Yup I'm not Lookin forward to it but I suspect I'll admire it greatly when it's finished

Gibb that looks like a work in process definately

it has a very strong smell..when you sand the stuff its even stronger..that pic was taken a few years ago..when it was finished it looked fantastic.we floored the whole ground floor in the stuff.
