I’ll work on all this over the coming days—I thought it best to at least make a start. Excellent, here’s my build thread, not sure if it will help but it might amuse 😊

Ps, I’ve considered electric for mine, but I was thinking along the lines of a motor hub front wheel like the Swytch kit as you can choose how many spokes you want and they’ll build it.

I’m not sure how you’ll make a BB unit work with the adjustable cam BB housing? (to get the tandem drive chain tight)

I think I'll be referring to it often... :) thanks again.

I was advised not to go for a front hub unit as they are apparently the least smooth (in terms of application and management of power) of the three options and can place a lot of stress on the forks. I have been advised to install a rear hub unit but the mid-drive appeals to my sense of adventure. I plan on ordering next week so there'll be updates shortly thereafter, hopefully with some answers.

Here’s the video that made me think it’s doable:

70mm wide on the tandem, so should fit with a bit of messing about (my forte). I also thought of moving the entire drive train to the right-hand side using two gears but it’s just adding to the overall complexity I think.

The place I’m ordering from are quite helpful and they also stock extension cables for all the necessaries, which I believe was a stumbling block for early “converters”.

The 750w motor is also essential as the 1000w doesn’t allow enough clearance for the left-hand gear to be fitted.

P.S. I’m catching up on terminology; piston-rings, camshafts and con-rods are my language up to now. :)

Ah... clever, its got a chain tensioner so doing away with the BB cam housing... yeah that might just work... crack on ;)

My wife’s condition means no more solo riding for me so I’ve decided to take the best bits of my Gary Fisher to make the tandem more comfortable for the both of us.
Wheels, handlebars, front disk and gear assemblies would seem to be an easy swap—unless I’m missing something…
The missus is also less than happy with the height of her seat off the ground (she can barely reach on tippy-toes at the lowest setting) so the 2cm drop resulting from the smaller wheel diameter should help.
