1949 F H GRUBB, D'Avignon

Re: 1938 F H GRUBB

Before 1948 the 531 was horizontal ? Must have another look at the H Lloyd site in case I've misread it. I'm on tjhe tablet and .PDF files are a bit flakey.

Re:

Seen both style Reynolds transfers and had a look on classic rendezvous site. The two are similar but look at the lettering bottom right, Shaun. 30s the lettering touches the 531 and 48-53 doesn't seem to? Help I am going mad! Lol.

Hi, attached is a photo of a pre war Dawes ( efficiency tourist model ) from 1935/6 with an early 531 decal, Dawes and Reynolds are both from Tyseley. I hope this helps. Terry

Re:

Hi Terry and thankyou I've just had confirmation from Norman Kilgariff himself via Nigel Land that it is in fact a first quarter 1949 D'Avignon model. Has been niggling away at what it could be but previous owner said it was 1938 and I wasn't sure. I will be able to sleep soundly now :)

Re: 1938 F H GRUBB

Yes, 1949 sounds much more plausible, which makes my frame about 1948, or possibly 1947, depending on production rate at the time.

You'll have to change the title of this thread now that you know it's a 1949 frame!

Re:

Will change it. Took some investigating as I didn't know what it was and got thrown by the previous owner saying it was a 38. Only 10-11 years out lol

Re:

One interesting fact that Norman said. There were 3 frames made with the same serial number, this one stamped on the head tube only. I wonder if any others exist? Be amazed if one did.
