Before 1948 the 531 was horizontal ? Must have another look at the H Lloyd site in case I've misread it. I'm on tjhe tablet and .PDF files are a bit flakey.
Seen both style Reynolds transfers and had a look on classic rendezvous site. The two are similar but look at the lettering bottom right, Shaun. 30s the lettering touches the 531 and 48-53 doesn't seem to? Help I am going mad! Lol.

Hi, attached is a photo of a pre war Dawes ( efficiency tourist model ) from 1935/6 with an early 531 decal, Dawes and Reynolds are both from Tyseley. I hope this helps. Terry
Hi Terry and thankyou I've just had confirmation from Norman Kilgariff himself via Nigel Land that it is in fact a first quarter 1949 D'Avignon model. Has been niggling away at what it could be but previous owner said it was 1938 and I wasn't sure. I will be able to sleep soundly now

One interesting fact that Norman said. There were 3 frames made with the same serial number, this one stamped on the head tube only. I wonder if any others exist? Be amazed if one did.
