1949 F H GRUBB, D'Avignon

Re: 1938 F H GRUBB

Thanks for the positive comments.

The headset is the modern type, but these were not uncommon on quality 1930s lightweights, while the headclip type was still being specified by some makers right up into the late 1940s, and sometimes later if the customer wanted one.

See what I mean about how difficult it is to accurately date bikes from the 1930s and 1940s period?

Maybe we should organise a Retrobike pre-1950 ride...

Re:

Pre 50s retroride sounds a great idea, Wheelnut! Yes so difficult not having the guys that built them around now.
Something with mine that possibly dates it 30s is the Stem? Seen one on a 1935 F H Grubb on the net and saw one on ebay that went for alot. It is steel but very light. Also the braze-on mudguard eyelets are 30s?
I have a 37-8 Maclean featherweight and really similar.
Have seen Grubb's and Claud Butler's with now standard headsets and agree.
Would have to sort out a route somewhere for a pre 50s trudge.
