More confusion now. Norman Kilgariff has contacted and has found out that the 3 2144 serial numbers were used at different dates. The first in 1925 the last in 1949. The first would be stamped on the head tube and the last one would be on the rear n/s drop out. So mine is somewhere in-between, just where? Hopefully a rough date soon.

Perhaps you were right all along and it turns out to be a 1938 frame after all. Interesting...

If I get anymore info I will post it. It could be 38 still? The guy I got it off said it was and his uncles bike from new and won some races with it but could be just a selling ploy? Wish I could post the emails on here Wheelnut.

1938 or 1949? Regardless of year it is a beautiful looking machine I love the patina and its originality but also like wheelnuts semi modern approach.
Now, like many others who I bet are following this closely, must wait a bit longer

Cheers Jamie! Yes the patina I love too. It still rides like a new 30s or 40s bike and that's cool. For me at 6ft the angles and size is perfect.
Bikes got upgraded with parts and braze-ons and it also shows their history. New paint if its shot and newer parts is cool too. Good to see the similarities between them.
