    Today's Ride

Cold but calm and clear today -- too lovely to waste by not riding, so set out mid-afternoon on the '98 Explosif for a bit of a circuit. As soon as I hit the first hill I realised my legs were somewhat knackered from a long run yesterday, so had to banish any idea of hardcore heroics and just...

    Today's Ride

Stressy couple of work days this week, but today was so nice and sunny, if chilly, that I took time out to do a quick MTB ride on my easy-to-access 'Badlands' route. After rain, gale-force winds and zero-degree nights, it seemed like all of nature was out enjoying the sunshine: saw rabbits...

    Show us your pre-'97 Trek

Same frame as my first MTB, bought on sale at Evans, The Cut in 1993, with rigid fork. Mine also didn't have that XTR stuff on it! It did ride really nicely, though, doing duty as commuter, tourer and offroader. And stolen outside Senate House, London University, two summers later.

    Today's Ride

Horrible weather here this last week, with a 'rain bomb' sitting over NSW for four days, causing record floods and killing four people. We were less affected, being a bit south of the main system, but still copped three days of virtually continuous rain and one of strong, gusty wind. Managed to...

Gee, sorry not to have remembered the first post, 25 pages back and two years ago . . . But keep up with the condescension -- it always works well on the internet.

This popped up on my alert -- excuse my ignorance, but I thought Hei Heis had 'bullet' ends where the tubes are welded to the dropouts? Or did that come after 1992? It's now listed as a 19" -- tempting!

1999? Rocky Mountain Thin Air Refurbish Questions

Welcome! This looks like a great project. Regarding the chain, you may need to measure how worn it is before deciding to replace it. Bear in mind that if it does need replacing, you may also need to install new chainrings and/or cassette -- the more worn the chain, the less likely a new one...

    Rigid fork time..

I'm a fan of Pace RC31s if you can find them at a reasonable price. And there are V-brake adaptors for them too (still available on the Pace website).

"the best one thus far is a external water nozzle that one can spray the outside of the hub." My mate and I did this with our 80cc two-stroke motorbikes when trying to ride them long-distance. Well, a bucket of water over the cylinder -- resulting in immediate warping of the aluminium cylinder...

    Today's Ride

Bit of a dull day but warm and not windy, so dragged myself out on the Jake at lunchtime, not really feeling it but hoping the effort would fuel a bit more enthusiasm. Decided to explore some alternative routes as part of this process, which was good in a way: it was great to follow a different...
