Today's Ride

I've become quite lazy over the past few weeks. What started out as enthusiastic and adventurous rides home, trying to keep routes varied and interesting, has become a race against the clock over the same seven miles.

Tyres changed, marks the return of enjoyment. What a relief.

After a bit of work at my house today we decided to go for a quick blast around the woods. Very quiet and the quick turned into a few hours, but it was such a nice day to be riding.

It's been a miserable couple of days, soaking home runs, soaking runs in. This is summer? I don't know what to expect anymore.

It happens most years around this time, doesn't it? There's a reason why some people have come to regard the annual tennis jamboree at Wimbledon as a rain dance. It's because every time the pros start dancing around on the Wimbledon tennis courts, the heavens open, and it pours with rain. LOL!

Very tired today. Really didn't feel like turning a wheel. Dug in, and through gritted teeth, got on and did it anyway. Now sat in a chair dozing while I try and think of something to write...

Waddington's Boatyard. We don't have such refined things as chandlers in these here parts, only boatyards.

Quick blast (more of a trundle actually) up the Longdendale Trail to the base of Torside Reservoir- over the dam then a nice bit of singletrack that spits you out on to a wider sandy/rocky trail all the way to the base of Rhodeswood. Then along the access road by the side of Valehouse, over the dam and back on the trail by Bottoms to the road...and home. Nice ride

This weekend was much better than last week's abortive affair.

A set of new Vittoria mescals sorted my tyre issues, and a stick caliper on the front meant cannabilising a set of guides from the hardtail.

Saturday. 24 miles around Rossendale, with a pie stop.



Sunday, some tough miles around the duddon valley in the Lake District. Looking very jungle like with lots of over grown ferns.

I finished off building up the Ridgeback 705RS this morning, then took it for a ride in the late afternoon/early evening. It was Markybeau's until a few weeks ago and it has appeared in a number of posts on this thread until it was kindly karma-ed to me. Ridgebacks of this era don't get a lot of love on this forum, or anywhere else, and I sometimes think that I'm the only person who really likes them, but I just find them really good looking bikes.

It's a parts box build at the moment and today's ride was very much a test ride. Some things will change; the M550 front mech is first in the firing line. I don't like that at all. Aside from that, the ride quality is fine: it's a smidgen heavier than the 704TX I have but the 705RS doesn't flex around bottom bracket in the way the 704TX does, and that's a very good thing. The geometry and steering will take a little getting used to, though, and I'm not sure whether it should be racier, like the Stumpy, or just chilled and comfy, like the Hardrock: the Ridgeback is low but short. Hmm. Anyway, today's ride: about 24 miles to Wye, 17°C, lots of stops to tweak things. And the seat post kept sliding down a little but I didn't want to over-tighten the clamp, break it, and have a long, slow, laborious ride back - and miss the football.

Not many pics as trying to beat the rain this evening. I've been ebiking to work throughout June after my ankle replacement in March. I'm weaning myself off it & rode a regular bike the last 3 days - approx 13-14 mile round trip. Getting there slowly. I even slipstreamed an ebike for a few miles until it turned down another track this morning - it was a 'legal' one though!
