Vitus 992 project

Question for OP.

How does that stem ride? That's a lot of milled out material

I am looking to get the same stem for my neo-retro build so any info about it would be great!

Is it flexy? Where did you get yours? :D

Thanks in advance!

The stem rides well, no more flexible than some of the classic 3TTT and Nitto quill stems I have on other bikes. I'm no Mark Cavendish or Sagan but I've ridden this bike fast a good amount and not had any issues whatsoever. I feel like it makes a kind of box section form more like current ahead style stems so it actually has pretty good stiffness. The only thing it might suffer potentially over very long periods of use is cracking from the side slots but they are well finished and rounded off. If you are buying this stem its probably not for your daily ride so i would go for it!

Mine came from a German eBay seller if my memory serves.

Have you already got some wheels ? I have some open sup clinchers laced to mavic 571/2 hubs and a NOS 8 speed mavic shark tooth cassette for sale here in Australia

 sorry - How you can use a shark teeth cassette on a MAVIC 571/2 - it's extra made by MAVIC for Shimano 8-speed HG cassettes - I think you will have changed the rotor to a origin 571 version, which you need for MAVIC's origin shark teeth sprockets :?:

Re:

Interesting, I painted a carbon one of those for the brother in law, all the same lugs and tube profiles but in carbon. Turned out nice!

Very nice! I would love to get hold of one of these for the stable. 80s and 90s bonded frames have become a bit of an obsession for me recently. The Trek 2300 and Rossin Strada Advance are also very striking with some bold neon/80s options in their original paint.

With my Vitus I've recently got hold of the proper 992 aero seatpost and a white Turbo saddle for it. I'll post some new pics when I have them on!

Sorry for the late reply, but I'm curious: Why did you put all of that money and effort into a throw-away junk frameset?
