Mercian Pro Lugless 653

A day rearranging stuff in the garage and I’ve been able to rotate some bikes back in to use. At least they’ll get a good clean.
This one I’ve had a long time, think I put it together way before I ever recorded any of my bikes on here. I refreshed it with new white Campag cables a few years ago.

It’s a Mercian Pro Lugless, although it has a lugged bottom bracket. Guess you could have whatever you wanted as they were made to order. Probably deserves a Record build but I can afford Chorus so that’s what it’s got - with the exception of Mavic headset and bottom bracket. Seat let’s it down, a scabby old Flite, I’ve got others but this one was the only Flite I’ve found bearable so it has stayed on there.

I love the paint job on this, late ‘80s/early ‘90s I’d guess.

I saw that one a while back. I’m sure seen the stars paint job albeit not pink/white on other Mercians but I’m buggered if I can find them now. Sounds daft but my favourite thing is the gold lining around the Mercian decal, you only see it once up close.

There is something to be said about second in line groupsets especially for the average Joe, I serviced a friend of mines bike lately and he had a Record chainset with the hidden bolt, when I removed the chainset the bolt had gone and so had the spacer...
