Is it bad to buy a minter for parts

Probably for bike recycling shops. Those fix/overhaul abandoned bikes and sell them cheap again so they get a new lease of life. Or strip the parts from bikes that really can't be fixed or aren't worth fixing anymore.
Every bike or part that goes that route, reduces the size of landfills or saves all the energy needed to melt it down and recycle the metal. So I can only applaud that.
 
I have a mate that buys from council dumps . police etc and some times has some good stuff and calls me when his just picked it up
