I now put about 40 miles on the bike with the new chain since I freed the stiff link.
Overall, things have improved compared to the old chain on the new freewheel, but it's still significantly more difficult to shift gears compared to the old setup.
To the point that is has taken away quite a big chunk of the pleasure of riding.
I'm not sure how to proceed.
I think the best way would be to fit the old wheel and try again, just to feel the difference back-to-back.
After that, if it's the freewheel, I will consider swapping them. The old Maillard is still in very good condition.
