92 team marin......well....almost....

Its been a while...but im making progress. The biggest problem has been finding days im up for riding the bike in wet and windy weather....its fair weather bike for sure.
So, after a lot of messing about with stems, headsets and strangely seatposts, im to a point there i just need to ride it a lot more.
Here is the finished stem height / length arrangement.....
Ive chopped the steerer down, but ive left a fair bit so I can revisit the height now or in the future.....which is very likely......sadly.

Ive also swapped seatposts out. I wasn't happy with the silver ritchey one. Although a lovely post, it was standing out a bit. So ive found this one, resprayed it and bobs your auntie.
I will look for something of slightly better quality, but 27.0 is not the most common anymore, especially with some layback that the frame angle requires.

Last but not least is the pedals.....ive started work on some suntour xc9000s. Nice big platform, for big feet. Plus, sealed bearings.
The shafts need new chrome, the cages black cerakote, new bearings and seals, the bodies fettling and repolishing, oh and some new spanner flats.....other than that they are fine..
These were stuck in some cranks and the previous owner rounded off the flats trying to remove them. They were also pretty chewed up from use too.
Bearing removed, seals binned and replaced.
Ive filed out the worst of the damage to the bodies and sanded them ready to polish.
The damaged spindle flats ive milled down from 15 to 14mm to get the flats back.
More pictures to follow when finished.

The stem/handlebar setup looks great. When we chatted about stems I assumed you would be needing a 90degree 300mm long unit with a 100mm rise ‘bar!
A warm day...with a blue sky and far far less bugs than last week. Last week was disgusting....bugs in hair, nose, eyes, clothes.....urrrrgh.
Also, a good day for my first proper off road sojourn.
Blimey I've missed Tange Prestige. Last 2 years (other than the odd retro blast on 89) have been done on some good old tange db. Don't get me wrong, its fabulous tube, but the flex and zing you get from prestige is a thing of beauty.
Even the stones sound different as they bounce off the paintwork....
I've still got the stem and the pedals to do, but im really enjoying the bike. The steel post is a triumph too. Cant wait to sort out a steel stem.....got an idea for something different for that (i can see Gav looking worried all the way from here)

Pedals are in de-chome and once wired and acid bathed they can go back through the chroming process. Will take some pics of our "bucket" plant.! It looks like the worlds worst chemistry set!

Those grips are a must when your old and frail.
I love them, I have the Ergon GP3 but I also found the ODI ones really good and comfy.
Can't ride without them it'll knacker my wrists.
They are actually only on there as they are easy to remove. They will be swapped out with some racers edge extra chunky (big hands), but they are a devil to get off/ on without splitting them.
However, i use those ergons on my touring bike and they are very good.
Has anybody tried the sqlab ones? Supposed to be excellent.
