1994 SWorks FSR - My 1st retro build

Hi all,

Time for me to post my 1st ever retro build on here… Suffice to say I’m late to the party despite having been a bike mechanic throughout the 90’s and raced XC. My build is based on the following personal criteria:

• My favourite parts from 1994 to 1996 (ish)
• Target an uber light weight XC
• Trying to source parts that I used to own (race) or know of
• Something I can use regularly and enjoy now still

The outcome is a 1994 Specialized SWorks FSR with a splattering of 95 / 96ish components that I loved back then. The FSX forks and Forged Cranks are originally mine that I owned and raced upon while on the Scottish MTB team (Juvenile/Junior). I managed to contact the people who I sold them to over winter to buy them back 15yrs later!

It weighs in at a snip under 23lbs (as photographed) = not bad for a full suspension of that era!

• 1994 SWorks FSR
• 1995 SWorks FSX forks (with long travel kit)
• 1995 SWorks Forged Cranks
• 1994 SWorks Titanium Stem (150mm)
• Syncros Titanium BB (68 / 103mm)
• Easton Carbon seat post
• Easton Carbon Monkey riser bars
• Flite Titanium seat (reproduction release)
• Chris King A-Headset
• Ritchey Sachs 2x9 drive train & shifters (quite rare)
• Shimano XTR 950 series V-brakes / derailleurs / levers
• Mavic CrossMax wheelset
• X-Lite Ti quick release seat pin
• USE seat post shim
• Various titanium bolts where possible…

I’ve already been out riding it for 2hrs today and it certainly what I had hoped. Swift and fun due to being reasonably light weight intent. Just how I remember it. Although flexy by todays standards! Totally loving the Ritchey Sachs 2x9 ratios and good old V-brakes.

I will be riding it a lot more as I’ve built this with the intention of using regularly. Next up to hit one of the old SCU MTB series trails locally.

Many thanks to a number of people on here who sold me parts, gave advice and answered my calls for help.

That one there's an FSX Judy - There was one before, Mag 20/21 based air/oil... :)

You're totally right, this frame originally had those forks. 6mths later I ordered the very first FSX Judys to arrive in the Uk back then to use which actually went onto. Giant MCM team frame I got through sponsorship.
 
Those Judy FSX's were all-too drool-worthy the year I got those air/oil FSX's... All I could do was stew in envy, having just dropped $800 on my frame/fork (2nd hand, after the shop owner rode'm for a year).
