Thanks, won't be long to wait now. The basic set up of the gears is done and just the brakes and final few details to sort out.

I have some BB taps which I used just to clean the threads so I know they are clean. I'm guessing the BB was possibly used loose at some point during its life which has damaged the threads, The BB still threads in fine and can be tightened but it's definitely looser than it should be and I can tell if I tighten it any more than I have it'll cause further damage.
I actually thought about using some PTFE tape just to pack things out a bit so will give that a go just to see if it helps, I've got some lying round somewhere.
I need to get my Orange Prestige sent off to Bob Jackson soon for its re-spray so will ask them about what they could do to repair the BB shell and what it would cost (might not be worth the expense).

I know you're a stickler for the detail ;) but there's Mavic (or other threadless ones) if it becomes a problem

Yeah I know there's various options should it come to it. I'm sure it'll be fine for the limited amount of riding it'll see, still got a few others that can get ridden more regularly if need be :D

So you've used some BB taps to clear the thread well you can't do better than that then mate and yes it does seem more than likely that the bike had been ridden at some point with a loose BB so it's possibly deformed the BB shell a little too so fingers crossed Bob Jackson quotes you a reasonable repair price although the ptfe tape maybe enough to hold things tight seen as you won't be using it for any serious riding and i must of overlooked your thread about the Orange prestige so i've got some catching up to do ;) ..

I've got some catching up to do with the Orange Prestige too! it's stalled even harder than this one :LOL:.
I feel my cycling mojo is back though so keen to get on with building and riding now. I have plans (and the bits) to tweak my Dave Yates to fix a few issues which became apparent when riding it at the MacRetro run in the Pentlands earlier in the year.

Well i'm feeling fairly confident about the Epic so i'll just wait and see what your updates reveal so if i don't read anything further regads the BB i'll assume it's okay .

Yes i had forgotten about the Orange until you'd mentioned it earlier and have communicated with you on that thread so i know where your upto regards that and look forward to eventual updates when you can move further on with it .

So you've got issues with your Dave yates then mate , well then you are going to be busy then aren't you :shock: but i have every faith in you getting these 3 bikes sorted then although the Yates i expect you'll sort out first seen as it's not a build project and i hadn't realised you'd lost your mojo which just goes to show how out of touch i've been of late but i have been rather distracted since March so no surprise their really ..

I'd love to go to one of these bike events one day as i keep promising myself but not managed it yet but fingers i will at some point sooner rather than later ;) ,,

Had a couple of days off work so been making a little progress with the bike (pic's to follow). Firstly though I came across another Epic while searching for images online (I had jokingly wondered where this one was earlier in the thread).
So an e-mail to Mountain Bike Specialists in Durango produced the following picture. The last digit isn't legible anymore but "NO02#" confirms it was Ned Overend's race bike :D

If you navigate the virtual tour of the shop towards the 1990 World Championship banner at the end the bike is hanging on the wall to the right, along with a few of his other race bikes :cool:

Well she's done........................almost :LOL: still got a few minor things to sort out, namely adjusting the U-brake as one side is sticking on so need to mess about with the spring set up as I suspect I've assembled it incorrectly. Plus need to trim the seatpost QR. Will get some outside pic's soon, still need to decide if I can bear to pop the anodizing cherry on the rims :?
