Awaiting delivery of my first bare road frame.

I've built plenty of mountain bikes but never a road - are there any little tips/pitfalls in build technique/component choice that I should know about?
Initial component choice will probably be based on buying a junk donor bike to salvage parts just to get it running.

The frame has shifter mounts on the downtube and a braze on front derailleur mount, I'm presuming anyw shifters/braze on mech should be a standard fit?

Position of brake levers can be tricky. "Stock" is so that bottom "point" of lever rests on flat surface, at same level as bottom flatted out part of the drops. Putting them too high or too low always looks amateurish.

Also be aware of compatibility of
1) wheel size - 27" vs. 700C
2) Brake caliper drop/clearance
3) Rear axle length
4) BB thread
5) Headset standards - there are different thickness crown races.

Actually a lot of things to be aware of that don't crop up with MTBs.

The choice of beer when buildign is important must be the same country as the frame,

EG

Classic english touring frame - real ale

Italian frame - red wine or over priced larger.

think you get the idea
