XTR M900 trigger rebuild - the complete HOWTO

Oh, so you think, someone swapped the mechanism and used the cover of the left shifter? No. It would not fit. As I wrote, there are definitively two versions of of the right shifter. Its not only the cover, that is different. The rest of the housing is different, too. So you can't fit the cover with the two holes to the shifter with the one hole.

Re:

In my opinion it's either a prototype shifter based on the earlier shifters...

But the paddles or black (as per XT) and I cannot quite tell the case colours between the cap an the bottom bit.
It could very well have been swapped over to get it working.
How many index positions does it have ?

The colors of the cap and the rest of the cage match perfectly.
I have some XT Triggers in the drawer. I'll post some more pics later.

Here is the pics as promised.

This is a XT shifter pod of that era:

It is very similar the the "normal version" of the m900. But it has 7 instead of 8 gears, of course.

And here are both versions of the M900. Note, that all le housing parts differ. Not only the lower cover. Normal version on the right.

And this is the front of it.

I just checked my stock. Of the 6 sets I have only one is the version with no center screw in the lower cover.

The "non normal" has a date code on the trigger finger lever. It says rb - that should be feb. 1993.

Does anybody know, where to expect a date code on those "normal" m900 shifters?
