How to service a left side XTR M900 shifter pod

Disassembly

I did a rebuild if the left side trigger contraption, in fact I did it three times before doing a write up. I decided to only explain how to get it all together again, because it seems more logic somehow. Its usually easy to take things apart but more difficult to get them together properly.

So before I begin I have two things to mention. First, the main nut is again left handed thread! Second, there are two very thin brass washers that tend to stick to their neighboring part unnoticed. I managed to crimple one while cleaning. So watch out!

So this is how the whole thing looks like in his unwashed beauty ;)

Reassembly

Position that first spring into the little hole in the base and grease.

Plastic part on top of the spring, spring hook fits into the slot.

This is how the two metal hooks should be oriented.

The the slide bearing ant one of the brass rings on top of it.

Next up the trigger finger lever and the small spring for the left metal hook

A matal disk and the retainer spring. Clip in both ends to put tension on the lever.

Put this plate in place and secure with the small snap ring. Then tension the little spring underneath the snap ring you just put in place. Put the second brass ring on top. Note that in the pic that hole seen in the middle should be pressed on top of that brass nob that hold the retaining spring. But in my case the spring was warped up. I did not notice that until later.

A sleeve on top of the brass ring

and a plastic slide bushing "around" it.

The little hook on the thumb lever, along with a little spring and a snap ring...

fits in like so. You have to turn the ratchet ring one click to the left, so the hook (from the last pic) fits in between the ratchet rings "nose" and the other hook.

Another disk and the last spring that retracts the thumb lever. Don't put tension on it until the teh central nut is on.

Put the last Disk on top of the spring and fit the central nut. Secure the central nut with one drop of glue. Left handed tread, remember? ;) Clip in the last spring to put tension on the Thumb lever.

That's it.
