XTR cables....worthwhile upgrade ?

I always recommend Clarks XTR 'style' cables because they're brill and dirt cheap.

I'll give them a try. I'm not bothered by the 'xtr' label, as long as they work.

Make sure you get the Clarks 'XTR style' gear/brake cables and not the Std ones and you won't be disappointed...

£8.99 per complete pack from Halfords BTW.

Had some XTR cables and have to say they were ace and almost fit + forget. Saying that, normal cables that are oiled and treated well are almost as good imo. Can you be bothered to look after them? If not go XTR.

Aaaah....Now I'm in no way lazy and don't mind doing maintenance at all....but have to confess that sometimes it might slip my mind for a bit .....

....thus I succumbed to temptation when passing a store to day....seem to remember regular brake cables and outers etc at my LBS cost around £7......big shiny store with a we'll match any price policy....XTR brake set £15.....I wanted to resist....but I couldn't....I'm sorry ...the lure of wanting to know for myself was too strong for me

they have two types..the universal and the premium and value for money on the premium is great

Now as silly as it sounds...if it was a garage queen i might xtr it purely for investment and resale

depends what ytou have now and what problems you are having.

I think I have XT cables (definitely not XTR) on my pld daily commute that ~I commuted through mud, snot, and abroad and did thousands of miles, went through a couple of inners and still have the original outers fitted.

once in a while I would clean the cable and lube but shifting was perfect all the time (except for when the spring on the rear mech went weak).

so not sure what XTR would have given me more? blink? weight? neither of those were important on the cimmute bike.

Didn't know anything about Clarks until I asked about XTR so that speaks volumes in itself....they'll be on my list as replacements come due....The XTR cables will be going on the bike likely to get used the most in all conditions......no garage queens 'round here

Strangely enough on my commute bike (more likely for me to get neglected ) I use Gore Ride-On. Now they really are fit and forget but cost an arm and a leg. Must be said though 3/4 of my commute is offroad so scope for clag is high.
