XTR 950 Bottom Bracket with 952 Crankset

I had a similar issue once, though I think I've also had success with the same combo later. It was a strange one as the v1 splines should with any v1 crank.
 
V2 cannot go in V1, that's the usual problem, it widens them etc.

That V1 950/952 problem they seem to imply doesn't seem a problem. Either dirt, fitting, tolerance etc.
While he says it's wider, it's actually just the M952 uses a thinner tube, you can see that as the threads are deeper.
 
The problem I had wasn't dirt or anything else preventing the fit, even took off the self extractors to see what was going on. The BB splines simply wouldn't slide into the crank arm splines. This was all using vgc kit. Ended up using the same model BB to crank and all worked fine. It was a mystery like I said as it should have fitted no problem.

Could not tell you why, maybe it was a tolerance thing, but everything was clean and damage free.

Ice since had many xtr m95x parts and have mixed bbs and cranks without issues as far as I can recall.
 
That’s weird, so it looks it’s a kind of a gamble. The thing is, I have a 950 and 952 BB sitting around, both new. I rather would like to use the 950 because of its inferior bearings compared to the 952 but I really don't want to wreck my crank arms. Is there any option to check the fit before hand?
