Whatever happened to the 12 days before Christmas ?

What's that when it's at home?
The 12 days of Christmas start on Christmas day, not end there. You are supposed to have your decorations down by 12th night to avoid an unpleasant spell of eternity.

12 days before and 12 days after and has been a tradition of this country since they wrote their version of the bible.
Maybe up your way through your family.
But not this country.

12 days before and 12 days after Christmas??? does that not make it "The 24 Days of Christmas"??!!
The First Day of Christmas is Christmas Day!!
Tradition was decorations went up on Christmas Eve, it was considered unlucky to put them up prior to that, as it was considered unlucky to leave them up a day past the 5th of January.
From Christmas Day til the 5th of January is 12 days....
"The 12 Days of Christmas" !!
:xmas-big-grin:

happy non denomical what? its Christmas, if people don't want to celebrate the birth of Jesus then they can go kiss the sand somewhere else, this is still a christian country with a church of England at the helm.
I don't remember anyone saying to me happy festive period during eide,
Happy Birthday Jesus, may you live long and prosper! (oh and stick a fsr under the tree for me please)

Decorations go up on Xmas eve here, and come down on the 12th night, or a bit earlier if the wife is on a mission.

It was meant as not to offend but I'm a Christmas person. The one night I go to church. still have the scorch marks from last year. :xmas-big-grin:

Christmas isn't about the birth of Jesus. It's the pagan festival for the return of the light. Celebrating the days getting longer rather than shorter. (Winter Equinox)

According to the census, that Mary and Joseph attended Bethlehem for, Jesus must have been born June time.

no offence taken history man I just don't dig political correctness!
Christmas isn't a pagan festival, its a christian one (there's a clue in the title) although Jól was later the name of a pagan Scandinavian holiday which merged with Christmas around 1000. (wiki)

I lost the Christian element to Christmas and the rest of the year after the Catholic church refused to confirm me because the priest didn't like my mother, he said it was because I didn't attend church often enough, Christ I used to go to mass every lunch as we had a chapel attached to the school  what more could I do, I thought he was the link to God, be he made me realise it was all a sham, I do Christmas so my kids don't feel left out at school and with their friends.
