What's a boot sale?
if you are a seller:
you rummage round your house and put all your unwanted items in your car boot...then you sit in a queue of cars at 5am on a sunday trying to stay awake....then you spend an hour fighting all the people selling stolen goods and knock off dvd's to get a pitch to sell from...then your have the fighting off the asylum seekers trying to nick all your goods without you looking as you unpack your car....then you spend 5 hours stood in the wet and cold being offered 10 pence by the same scuffers and asylum seekers for all your stuff.....then you go home with a few quid in your back pocket and the few remaining items you didnt sell...not forgetting to give the owner of the land a tenner for the privelege of the experience you have just had....
if you are a buyer:
you turn up to a field at silly o clock on a sunday morning full of people with cars boots full of crap they want rid of but are too tight to freecycle or throw away. then you spend an hour walking round looking at all the broken electrical goods, stolen tools, chipped cheap porcelain, 2nd hand kids clothes and knock off dvd's being offered for sale.
then to justify turning up you buy something really useful like a solar powered torch or a cd you remember having as a kid....then you go home and throw away the crap you just parted with your money for when you realise what you actually bought.....then you sit at home with a cup of tea and say "never again, total waste of my time"
the following sunday....you go to a field at silly o clock......

I think you call them trunk sales in the U States of A
a 'flea market'
but not a market for fleas. . . oooh the thread has digresses.

Seriously though, the alternative is to post in the "wanted". You never know what some of us have. Builds are a process of evolution, and many builds strat around a single part- a paul mech for example, and then with the offering of some proshift brakes and levers, the flavour of a build might change to 'proshift flavor', but the Paul mech sits around "it cost me a load and took me ages to find". But if a wanted ad appears, a serious guy, good feedback, appreciating the worth of the goods, a sale can be negotiated, when otherwise an ebay clearout wouldn't have been considered. .

And just for ref, I don't have a paul rear mech, but you get the feeling. . . Vive la wanted. And add confidence to all buying and selling by using the feedback forum
