BTW the price I quoted was for 2 wheels worth(64) of black dt swiss competitions plus 3 spare spokes.

Sorry dude, I was referring to silver competition spokes! Those pimpy black ones are more expensive!

Good luck with your wheel build, I'm sure you'll be fine!

you should leave wheel building alone unless you know what your doing it will go wrong other wise just leave it to the profesional's remember when you get them built by a pro you pay for the quality of the build not just cos they want money. remember you get what you pay for you buy cheap or cut corners your not gonna get much and trust me wheel building is an art you cant just jump in and be good straight away it takes time and practice. spoke tenshions have to be lmost equal all round or 6 months down the line you will pop spokes or pop eyelets on rims. just get them done by a pro its safer and you get a garentee with them. 8) 8)

Good point, If you home built wheel collapses on you who are you going to call :?: Ghostbusters :?:

Get Cannondale King to build it for you, he's a wheel building master

ive got the certificates to prove that as well if you people seem to forget that if you bend a spoke to close to the head it will fail really early on and that you have to use spoke washers with second hand hubs as theres always a small amout of play where the original spoke has warped the hub flange hole just a little but if you dont use a washer that small amount of play will get slighly worse every time that the wheel goes round under load beacuse a wheel that has done 1250 miles while have been subjected to a million load changes on the spokes therefore a wheel with 32 spokes has been subjected to 32 million load changes in 1250 miles see what i mean by you gotta get it right or it will go wrong quickly i know my sh1t if your gonna do it do it wi someone helping you who knows exactly what they are doing who can teach you follow the picture and copying the text just wont teach you everything that you need to know 8) il teach you if you wanna know i want hold back if need info just pm me and il gladly answer Q's just remember its an art and not every one is gonna be cut out for it 8)

Well, I'm working on a plan c at the moment re: wheels, if it goes to plan I may well have a go spoking a wheel just to see what happens.
Something I had always left to the pros really.
I don't want to start the whole off again, but how do you 'dish' the rear correctly...different sized spokes?

No offense takin or given just adding another price to the mix. BTW is missinterpreted so many times  much use another acronym :D

I have only started building wheels recently and it is ok . I used the Sheldon brown guide .

I agree there is not a lot to go wrong . your wheel wont collapse .

take your time .

I pay 40p a spoke for black DT , a little less for silver .

ive been toying with the idea of having a go at wheelbuilding myself. i know its somthing that takes time to learn but you have to start somewhere. leave it to an expert is probley sound advise but then how did the experts start out?

I am also looking into learning how to build my own wheels, I am sure it will be quite a fiddly and difficult task at first, but as with anything practise makes perfect. Any advice will be much appreciated.
