Scott bars had it?

Cold erosion makes Aluminum brittle over time especially if left in cold & damp places…..so be careful

Always surprises me how rarely we see broken bars without evidence of prior crash - but that sensation of a handlebar breaking when riding is never forgotten😬

With motor vehicles, driver error is around 95%, mechanical failure 5%
Retrobikers is probably no different.

In Bristol, a deliveroo rider on an illegal Ebike is probably more of a threat than ageing components tbh🙄.
Can concur! I had a pair of ITM alu bars snap at the joint about ten years ago on the cycle route through Belgium into northern France - scared the beejeesus out of me, and I wasn't going very fast. We'd just set off from a gate so maybe 12-15mph, went straight over and hitt he deck with quite a fairly impressive thud. It got a round of applause from my family. The cheeky beggars! I've not had a seat post snap yet but I've heard that can be equally dangerous...

Luckily we were on our way to a wine festival, so that helped soften the trauma, but it's something you're unlikely to forget. They were OLD...! It's quite scary as it's so instant and catastrophic and it's literally holding you upright.
