To work in the industry I am in I have had to live in the south in one of the most expensive areas in the country. Before I have even started my mortgage take 1/3 of my take home salary, we only live in modest 3 bed house.
I should say that it's only recently I have had that salary (like 1 month) before i was in the mid 40's, but once my car and pension (never had one before but I am thinking i need to have something if I live beyond retirement age) come out of my salary I will be back down to a similar figure.
I will be looking to move to a cheaper area with this new job as i can work from anywhere that has broadband so maybe things will get easier.
I can tell you with 2 kids and a modest house you do not live the highlife on 45k a year.

Carl.

Sorry but no sympathy here either....I live a VERY expensive area in a 3 bed house on less than half that (one income)! Just think how much disposable income I get a month!

Do you not think that claiming something just because you can is wrong anyway :?
I think the benefit system has become so complicated because it was a way to get people off the dole Q's,Give them an unnecassary job filling in paper work and then they are technically in work, the same with the nhs,the new government is now getting rid of staff that are unnecassary and saving millions in the process (according to them).

Too much.............look how many bikes you have

It seems to me that the people who have a good income seem to be the ones who are complaining about their lot......The rest of us tend to just manage...somehow.

You don't give any circumstances, for all I know you have no kids and no mortgage. You could quite happily live on half my earnings in my area with neither.

Carl.

I don't think its there income, I think some folks would just moan anyway. If you've not got enough you should have stuck in at school  but your deluded if you think it'll make you any happier.

Don't agree at all with that first part Kaiser, but whole-heartly agree with the second.

I'll happily admit that I am a deluded moaner that wants more money though :)

Get a different job then!

I did stick in at school and done rather well actually that is why I have managed to buy my own house and have two cars and a business of my own,it is just that the economy is a mess because money has been wasted on a grand scale for the last ten years, and that leaves most s.employed people in a difficult position, and to have our noses rubbed in it by people who are living on handouts etc. is a bit galling as the handouts on mass have been a large contributary factor in the downfall of the economy

Is that an opinion or fact? Where did the info come from. Genuine interest not a dig.

Kaiser, thats a bit harsh, in my industry and location, swapping jobs isn't really an option just now. I could switch careers but that would incur either re-training or a significant pay cut. I could move but the only place I would like to move to is edinburgh and I can't afford that at the moment.
