The large contributory factor bit. Has the economic crisis been blamed on benefits?

It has been mentioned on a couple of programmes yes,but obviously it has an effect it has to come from somewhere, the country was in massive debt before the new tax credit system was introduced and now it is alot worse......you do the math

emigrate if you wish but not many countries have better system than the uk , a few european countries and that is about it .

Denmark does - but current government is chucking the welfare state baby out with the overspending bathwater at the moment. It's like the Thatcher years here at the moment -so don't emigrate here.

Well I am in the south and we were ok,The unions needed whooping anyway they were holding the country to ransom

Apart from a short stint of enforced unemployment in 1996, I havent needed to have claimed a thing since.

I doubt that I'll qualify for anything now.

We all had money in the thatcher years

I didn't. Nobody else up north did either.

but we did have hope (for whatever its worth). After years of leftist discontentment, the hardworking common man had a sense of purpose and incentive to do his best and adopt a good work ethic. I left uni then ... jobs were scarce ... but those who were prepared to be underpaid grads as a foot in the door to industry prospered with a bit of hard work and moved onwards and upwards.

Thatcher failed when her power mad dictatorship showed her as an unreasonable non-listener with gordon gecko ideals

I was skint on £65k and didn't moan about it, am skint on benefits and still don't moan about it..
The only thing I ever moaned about (in relation to this discussion) was a job that I hated.. but still stuck it for 19 years for the income for me and mine.

The only holiday me and Kisty have ever had together was before we were living together (some 16 years ago now)..

There's a difference between telling ones situation and whinging about it ;)
