"VRC, we have lost cabin pressure…"

Houston... We have a problem!

I read (and cached) the original message early Sunday AM.
What a total train wreck!

If the accusations of an organized "cartel" are correct, then it's certainly a bit naughty.

Who knows...? But they certainly take it all a bit more seriously than here on Retrobike.

TOO seriously.
Hence, all of the bikes I have saved for, ridden and enjoyed over the years would probably be regarded as "junk" on MTBR.

That's why I only lurk over there sometimes, to see the nice bikes, rather than feeling able to "contribute". anything.

Let them fight it out: Fillet-brazed Steve Potts stems at 20 paces.
Better still: Handbags at dawn. :roll:

My personal theory is that it was Gary Fisher;
On the grassy knoll;
With a water-balloon.

Gutted that I missed this one earlier this evening. S'pose I'll have to get along to the civic amenity site this weekend for a rummage :( :( :(

(which is partly how I discovered this site in the 1st instance :P )

Cant read the thread but I get the gist

I didn't read it. I've been coughing up phlegm for like 2 hours.

update: I just skimmed it. My conclusion: Hoey said he thought that a better word list and a smarter program could get to ten times his 540-word palindrome, using only noun phrases with indefinite articles. I'm pretty sure that will never happen. The problem is a dirth of "a"s. According to Hoey's rules, every phrase must start with the letter "a". That means that either the rest of the word must be an exact reverse of another word (and we know there are 1100 of these) or the phrase must have another "a" in it somewhere, and it must be matched by two or more other phrases. Phrases such as "a man", "a plan" and "a canal" work well because they contain multiple "a"s. Now consider a phrase such as "a biologist". If that appears in the palindrome, then somewhere else the letters "tsigoloib" must appear. But note that those letters must all appear in one word/phrase, because there is no "a", and we only get word boundries at "a"s. And of course, there is no single word that contain those letters. In general, take a word (such as "an asparagus" or "a biologist"), split it into components around the "a"s (yielding ["n", "sp", "r", "gus"] and ["biologist"]). Collect the set of all such segments, from all the phrases in the dictionary. Now go back through the dictionary, and for each word, see if the reverse of each of its components is in this set. So "an asparagus" is good, because its reversed components all appear in the set: "n" appears in many places (including "an asparagus" itself), "ps" appears as a component in "a psalm", "r" appears in many places (such as "a karat"), and "sug" appears in "a sugar". On the other hand, "a biologist" is no good, because the component "tsigoloib" does not appear.

so in conclusion, I gotta go make my lunch for tomorrow.

F**k!, the proles have just realised that some of the old bike bits they've been willing to pay over the odds for might not actually be worth as much as they thought.

Now we're in trouble!

:roll:

Yeah mate, that's our retierment plan screwed! :lol:

Yeah but the funny thing about that page is that there were other posts after MrK's at least I think...that were self incriminating and ah...let's just say nasty and they don't show up anymore. From what I could recall...there were at least five or six posts below his before someone locked it up and threw away the key. All I did was raise the questions at the end to fellow members... the other words posted at the top came from someone else. For those of you needing to know what started the pot steering and then escalated it...you need to go back to the thread regarding eastcoaststeve's MVB bike of the month win....what most of the VMBEFG thought was the nicest bike didn't win. The "silenced majority" had spoken. No mod acknowledged who one or congratulated the winner for days and BP and eastcoast had a little exchange of words. Then on Thursday the March MVB thread started for fillet brazed bikes only and again the VMBEFG controlled the whole thing. The leaders posted quote was "well I guess that's ten then" referring to no more bike pics should be posted. Meaning they only wanted what had been posted even in the thread for the final ballot. They brought this on themselves. That's it I said it and I'm not talking about it anymore. Moved on.

To those of you that have and are posting support of/for me here....well I greatly thank you and I consider you my brethren.

Don't get on their bad side if you do like visiting there or the hammer will drop and this is what it looks like...

:D

:lol:

yeah, I like my retrobikes as much as the next man, but, you know, some people just get a little tooooooooo serious about it!

Hey gm1230126 I read the thread this morning and could see that there were some heated talk going on.

Have you got any hard evidence of what may have been going on? Seems really crappy that there is a an organisation attempting to inflate prices on bikes and parts they can source.

I guess that where there's money involved some people will try to take take take rather give to what is after all a shared hobby and a love of old bikes. I've always thought that the VRC Forum was very very competitive and I think it may have lost it's way. There's way to much slagging off and too much of the 'My bikes better than yours' attitude'

Does seem strange that the thread has now been deleted so quickly. I'm a member over there, not a very active one, but still a member. Just asked the moderators a question asking why it had been deleted, will let you know what the reply is.
