Old School Grand Master
as part of my attempt to blow 3 grand im am looking for a nice second hand 125 cruiser.so i start looking...........and keep looking......

eventually i found a yamaha in cambridge for 600 quideroonies on autotrader...so i phone the guy up and ask him about the bike specifically requesting if there was any thing i should know that needs sorting.
nothing he says needs doing

well this sounded great so i then request if i can come and see it and what time would work for him.i get told that about 8 in the morning would be fine as he has to go to work.i add the bike is in cambridge and i live in gorleston.....88 miles door to door via one of the busiest most dangerous roads in south of england.so i leave at 5 in the morning...(i am not an early person and the thought of getting up anytime before the sun makes my head hurt).
at 7 30 i get there.i go to his door and knock, noticing the sold sign displayed in his garden, standing back and observing the lay of the land.
its about this moment i become aware that the house im standing in front off is emtpy.hmmm i start to get worried...5 min past and no one answers my now concerned tapping on door thing.so i phone the guy up and luckily it turns out he was upstairs in the house packing the remains of his furniture.he then proceeds to show me the nice bike with no problems that he is aware of.(i should add that there was a slightly blurry pic on autotrader which i tried to carefully check before i left).within 2 minutes i had compiled a list of vital things it needed doing just to keep it on the road.....includind ....
new chain
new sprocket
new tyre on the back
new front disc
oh and a complete new twin exhaust system as his had more rust than a rust planet on a bad day.
oh and the frame had rust all over it requiring a complete strip and sorting.

after 15 minutes of looking i left .
i wasnt best pleased at this point so i didnt even try to haggle with him.
got home that afternoon and went back on ebay to continue looking.i managed to find a nice black marauder in lowestoft(6 miles away) for a starting price of 500 quid.this time the pictures were very good and it was clear the bike was in factory condition...fab i think...its just down the road and well within my price range...so i put a bid in....
within the next 2 hours i got outbidded 8 times by different people and finally lose out on a winning bid by over a 100 quid...

so guess where the next nearest bike i like in price range is?

yup glasgow...
im beginning to think norfolk doest have anything in it but roads that go out of it

You can get brand new Chinese copies of old Hondas (they even sound the same).

Zing bikes is local to me and a mate (who is a VERY experienced biker/ mechanic) says that the quality has come on loads since they first appeared with sub standard materials. He had one of the older Yamaha 125cc copies and was very impressed.

Thats only my take on it though - I gave a lift to the shops' manager and asked if their bikes were any good and was quite shocked when he said they were a load of crap

Good sales technique!

i had a seat on one of these a few months ago when i was first told of the bonus scheme thing and really liked it...its just a case of doing the leg work...i am looking for secondhand as they have that lived in look...

Would it have too be a 125, as the insurance rates for older than 25's aren't so wide on bikes.. (me at 17 can insure a 600cc for £1700 fullycomp)

yup....have to do my cbt again as it has lapsed.my previous bn 125 cruised at 65 all day which is great for me....plus my missus would hurt me if i got anything bigger... :?

When I was after a scooter I had to wait and wait until the right one came up - my price range was up to £900 and one popped up at £300 BIN only 35 miles away. Did a quick look over in the pics etc. Pressed the button and collected later that week - it's been brill :D I guess I was lucky - but it took ages to find something within my price range. Just happened it was well within that price range

if i were you id look around for a cg/b 125 honda
or a yam rd 125 lc

older stuff but if you look on some of the more classic based bike sites
rdlc forum for one ,vjmc for another, youll find a nice maybe restored
bike for a lot less than the cost of one of these new asian bits of crap

i do a bit work for a mate who runs a chop shop, but to pay the bills
he has to fix these things now and again ,it is honestly scary how bad
these things are, not only in manufacture but in build , absolute s*it
there may be some individuals out there striving to increase the
quality of the build of these bikes ,but all the ones i've seen didn't
impress one bit

my 2p's worth

He wants a cruiser chaps ;)

Best one when I was on a 125 (1983) was the CM125 . . . not that I'm that keen on Hondas (or cruisers) but one of the lads had a CM and it was a good bike.
